Burrowing Owls Released near Osoyoos
The Burrowing Owls Conservation Society opened a captive breeding facility near Oliver last year. This week society volunteers and staff are busy getting ready to release breeding pairs, for the third year, near the Canada – US border. Last year three pairs produced 18 young and one adult bird migrated back to the site. The Nicola Valley is the primary site for the owl reintroduction program but the south Okanagan appears to be a promising area as well. The mission of the society is to reintroduce self-sustaining populations to areas of BC where they lived in the past. Check out the BOCS web site.
